Grandma’s Gluten Free Goods has become one of my favorite places since I became gluten free. They have some of the tastiest gluten free foods I’ve come across, plus the staff at the store has been amazingly friendly and helpful. In fact, they were recently a gold award for favorite Specialty Food Store by the readers of the local paper, the KW record.
The store is both a gluten free grocery store as well as a gluten free bakery. All of the products they sell are gluten free. Quite a number of the products are dairy free as well and they keep records on their products so that they can determine which products are safe for people with other food allergies.
They carry most of the brands that gluten free customers are used to like Udi’s, Glutino, Kinnickinnick Foods and Gluten Freeda’s (to name only a few). You can check their website for all the brands they carry. They are also bringing in new gluten free products all of the time.
Gluten Free and Celiac Information
Grandma’s is a great source for information on Celiac Disease and Gluten Intolerance. The staff at the store is very knowledgeable on the subject and are great about sharing that knowledge. They also have a number of books and pamphlets available in the store, including the Canadian Celiac Association Pocket Dictionary that I mentioned in a previous post.
Additionally, the staff keep up to date on local gluten free events that are happening in the region, like gluten free trade shows or gluten free organization meetings. One benefit they offer their customers is that if you show them that you are a member of the Canadian Celiac Association, they will give you 5% off of your purchases.
The Bakery
Another thing to enjoy at Grandma’s Gluten Free is the bakery. One of the benefits of ordering from Grandma’s Gluten Free Bakery is that there is never any gluten products used on site, so there is almost no chance of cross contamination.
Some of the products they make on a regular basis are Carrot Cake, Banana Bread, Brownies and Cup Cakes. All of them are light, moist and delicious. They also make dairy free / egg free baked goods sometimes as well.
One of the big features of the bakery is the cakes they make to order. All of the cakes they make are made and decorated in the bakery. They do ask that you give them three days notice to prepare them and they are available in three sizes:
8′ round double layer
9′ round double layer
and a 9′ by 13′ oblong single layer
That should hopefully tell you a bit about the store. There’s other things I could write about, like their frozen food or the pizzas they make, but I’ll leave a bit for you to discover. To sum it up, Grandma’s is a good place to get gluten free food and a great place to visit. If you are in the area, check it out!
